Swedish floor runner circa 1920, 16 ft

A 1920s vintage Swedish rag rug or trasmatta featuring a pretty pink pastel pattern with blue and green checker stripes. One end is tied off with tassels, and the other is bound with a pink floral cotton print.

A combination of durability and simple elegance, these vintage rag rugs were made by Scandinavian farmers. During the winters, farmers filled their hours and supplemented their incomes by weaving these vibrantly colored rugs on home looms. On account of the size of a home loom, the rugs breadth approximately two feet, however the lengths vary from four feet up to the rare seventeen feet. The addition of a Scandinavian Rag Rug to a room provides warmth of spirit and a natural, down-to-earth splendor.

CONDITION

In good condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is a darkened spot on one end.
